How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?

Aren't Congresspeople elected officials? Shouldn't the people that elected them have a say in this matter? What is to stop anyone from attempting to gain office as one party for political expediency and then declaring for the other party (since we are in a 2 party system)?How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?It has happened several times in history -- several times in the last 50 years, even -- and nobody has a right to tell any elected official that he is not allowed to change his party affiliation. After a party switch, the voters still have the chance, at the next election, to say no to that official.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?You have COMPLETELY misunderstood you nation's system of government!

America is a Republic, wherein the citizenry elect individuals to office by democratic vote; those elected officials are then bound to make decisions they consider best for their constituency on BEHALF of them, not based on the citizenry's %26quot;wishes%26quot;! (That would be a parliamentary system, not a Republic)...

The Founders (in their wisdom) set things up this way to avoid %26quot;government by popular vote%26quot;, ie to avoid everybody in the country voting for a $100/hour minimum wage!How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?I have a thing against that no matter which side the changeling congressperson is on, I think anyone changing like that needs to leave first and then announce his change and run for reelection, to vote someone in, then find that they have gone over to the other side the day after the election would really get me angry.

Its a very big lie to present yourself as having one basis for your judgments and lawmaking then turning around and claiming you are more in tune with the other side. If I had similar theories with the other side, I would have voted that way in the first place.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?Everyone has the right to affiliate with whatever party they want.

If the person's constituents don't like the change, they can elect someone else.

Representatives serve us (or are supposed to), but they aren't our slaves, and do have the right to use their own minds.

What stops most from doing as you say is they risk be one-termers.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?That is what it is. Specter became a dumocrat for poilitcal expediency. But the GOP will not miss him. He was a dumocrat in republican clothing any way.And soince this is a free society, thewy have every right and responsibility to follow their core values.Good or bad.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?Have you been chosen by political party or do you chose it.....I was a Republican now I am a Charter Member of the vast Right Wing Conspiracy both chosen by me not the other way around.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?A congressman is supposed to represent ALL of the people in his district, regardless of party affiliation.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?This happens every few years.

And you wouldn't mind at all if he changed from R to D.How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?Have you learned NOTHING from this %26quot;Health Care%26quot; debacle... Congress does NOT care what %26quot;We the People%26quot; want! They think they know what is best for us even though they can not run anything effectively!How can a Congressman change his party affiliation without an election? What about his constituency?%26quot;What about his constituency?%26quot;

As P T Barnum was supposed to have said, %26quot;There's a sucker born every minute%26quot;.

You may have noticed the trend in the power mad congress lately to completely ignore their constituency (like at the infamous town hall meetings) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Bpshk5n http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.vie what's new about screwing over the voters by 'changing coats' like this?

It's like the pathetic choice republicans had for prez up against the 0bama machine, poor old McCain, RINO (repub in name only) you gotta be kidding me, a guaranteed loser. Don't kid yourself about Palin bringing down the ticket, if she'd been paired with any real right wing republican, 0 would not be screwing over the USA now.
